Default Eye-Rez gaming, when is it coming and how will it work?

Our eyes are peculiar things. In the human retina we have 120 million rods cells and roughly 3 million cone cells (per eye i think), these being the two primary cells that detect light.

SO it would make sense that for eye resolution gaming if you had a monitor large enough to take up you full 95 field of view vision would be about (22,000-11,000) by 11,000, seeing at the square root of 123 million is roughly 11,000 so for each eye you would need 11,000x11,000 resolution. The x resolution im not so sure about seing as most of our vision between our eyes overlaps.

The odd thing is that its only the 3 million cones which make up the sharp colour vision so would such resolutons ever be necessary? The rod cells cant detect colour but are useful for low light vision.

What would be the ideal resolution if performance were no problem?

Depends on the monitor size, but for a 30" display I think somewhere around 5K by 2.5K would be ideal.

Speaking of monitor size - Jakup - I see you're still sporting the Dell 2407. Any paticular reason for not upgrading to something bigger?

The majority of cones in your retina are distributed roughly +/- 10 degrees around the fovea - the highest resolution point, with density decreasing towards the periphery. Hence the resolution would need to vary across the monitor to match the retina (assuming you always focused on the centre). Peak density of cones in the fovea is about 175,000/mm^2 so that would be ideal.

I've considered it before, but it really comes down to the performance of high resolution plus high levels of AA.

Lol, how many times can you use the words, "super", "ultra" and "high" in the same description...

In terms of video quality I think this is kind of misleading as bitrate is king, you can convert video at a higher resolution and lower bitrate but the lower res, higher bitrate will look better (as long as the res isn't so low that it becomes saturated)...
