Done !
Filename is "mpeg2_block_corruption.vdr". Strange - recently, I updated mplayer and now only a very few block are corrupted. Current xine-vdpau SVN-Version (279) shows a lot more artifacts. |

Which frames are decoded incorrectly for you? (You can press "." to frame-step through the video, look at the status line for the frame counter.) Carl Eugen |

As stated before, the situation has improved a lot since the last mplayer version.
Mplayer frames with block artifacts: 581 690 759 891-902 Unfortunately I am not able to take a screenshot with mplayer but xine-vdpau has same blocks at frames 891-902 -> mpeg2_block_corruption.png in your ftp upload directory. Regards, Stefan |

Your problem seem specific for your system, perhaps producing a bug-report as described in the sticky helps you determine the exact problem. Carl Eugen |

@cehoyos:
Since it could be a xine-vdpau bug, could you make this sample somehow public? Thanx. |

I'm very interested in this artefacts issue as I am experiencing the same problems (see my earlier post).
I haven't tested mpeg2 playback with mplayer that, but will do so as soon as I get a chance. However liveTV is showing artefacts on my system. Anything I can do to help ? Any samples, logs I can provide ? Out of interest, how is mythtv playing liveTV, ie what software is used for liveTV "playback" |

Thankfully laffinet has the same problem as me, i was beginning to think it was my card. One interesting point is that we both have 9400GT and M2n68-VM motherboards. Laffinet can you test h264 and vc1 with vdpau in myth and see if the artifacts go away - mine is with mpeg2 only.
Gator P.S if you use standard decoding and vdpau rendering this will get rid of the artifacts and allow you to use the vdpau de-interlacers with OZ TV |

I have seen reports about the same problem from other people (here and here) with different cards and different motherboards, so it's not a 9400 and/or m2n68-vm issue.
h264 works fine (I haven't tested vc1), seems to be with mpeg2 only. Quote:

ok, ive updated the MB bios, ive reinstalled to karmic 32 bit and still the blocks appear on mpeg2 streams only. So is it a driver problem?, Is it a hardware problem effecting mpeg2 decode. My MSI 9400GT does not have a bios update available.. is there a generic one available that i can try? Has anyone got rid of these blocks?

I feel your pain. I've given up on vdpau on myth for the moment. At least for mpeg2 files. I'm running mplayer with vdpau as video player under myth, but my playback profile for livetv etc. is not using vdpau.
I tried different drivers, did a fresh test install, tried release and testing repos, still get random blocks. Interestingly enough I installed xbmc the other day and I think playback of mpeg2 files with vdpau was fine there, but will need to double check confirm that it was really using vdpau. If playback is fine there it would be interesting to know why and what is different (questions I can't answer with my limited knowdledge). |
