We have not released any driver that includes this fix. However, the fix will be included in a future driver in the fairly near future. I can't be any more specific than that at present. Sorry.

Anyone have a good download link for the 195.36.03 beta driver? Seems to have vanished from the web.

I'm running 195.36.15 and it's not fixed there...

Please see my post #71 in this thread; NVIDIA recommends that 195.36.03 and 195.36.08 no longer be used.

I noticed beta version 256.25 has a workaround included for feature set A GPU's and certain motherboard chipsets - looks like a fix for the artifacts. Should we try it?

I know this is an older thread, but it came up when I was looking for help on this issue. I have an ION frontend, and an 8400GS that this issue happens on (only mpeg-2). I'm using ubuntu 10.04 and 195.36.15. Will this fix work against that driver as well, or is there a newer driver I should manually install?

newlinux, the potential fix is included in the 256.* beta drivers. Please try those.

The patched driver I posted a while ago only works with the specific drivers mentioned when I posted it, and NVIDIA recommends not to use those particular driver versions due to a fan control issue.

thank you. I'll give that a shot on my ION machine and see how it works sometime this week. If all goes well, I may move it on to my other VDPAU capable machines, but they have powerful enough CPUs that they don't need it (so I can get to those when I get to them).

Darn. I have about the same symptoms. mplayer and mythtv with VDPAU produce lots of blocky artifacts on mpeg-2 recordings, but software decoders don't. I know there is some corruption in the stream, was hoping this was the problem because VDPAU looks so much worse than a software decoder on the same clips. It looks just like:

Any ideas on what I should look into next? I went ahead and installed a beta driver 256 driver anyway.

From the rest of that thread (I believe the ION is feature set B, correct) it looks like I'm just out of luck other than trying to get cleaner mpeg-2 files.

Unfortunately, with corrupted video files, you will almost certainly see some corruption in the decoded results. The exact amount and kind of corruption varies depending on the VDPAU feature set of your GPU.
