Default Microsoft Outlook message deletion error.

Hey y'all, got a problem. Someone asked me to help them figure out why their Outlook won't let them delete their messages. Everytime an error message comes up. I don't know what Win OS is, the Outlook type or version, or exactly what the error says. Until I get back in touch with her, I was wondering if there are any really good sites I could look at to help me out. I've really got to try to get this resolved, because I now owe this person a lot of money. It's my bail bonds woman's computer.

Tomorrow I'm calling her to find out what OS, Service Pack, Outlook type and version, and what anti-virus she's running. All I know is that the message says something about "unexpected error". Kinda embarrassed I didn't write any info down, but I hadn't eaten, slept, or had anything to drink in two days. I'll let y'all know what happened later, but for now I need to resolve this issue ASAP. Thanks y'all.

Check this out:

Really neat program to fix certain Outlook errors and problems.

If that doesn't work, try repairing Outlook. If that doesn't work, save her PST or OST, then reinstall Office. Make sure that you run CCleaner if you do this.

Thanks man. That program looks like it has a lot of functionality, and works with all the most recent Outlook programs. I hope it also works with Express, because I didn't find out if what she has is Outlook or Outlook Express. I don't even know what the difference is between them anymore. I've been falling behind on my computer knowledge here latele.

I'm sure there's a way to backup all the emails if I find I have to reinstall Outlook. If so, I hope it doesn't also duplicate this problem. I found this on a website...and I hope it's as simple as that.

Error #2: Unable to Delete Emails

Sometimes, you may find that not every email in our inbox is worth keeping or reading. However, there is another Outlook error that can prevent us from removing these unwanted messages from our inboxes.

Again, this problem usually stems from file corruption. In this case, a copy of an email that has been deleted already ends up in the deleted e-mail folder of the program. This confuses the program and prevents you from deleting other messages.

To correct the problem, you should follow these steps:

1. Copy all of the messages in your "Delete" folder to another folder.
2. Close your Outlook program.
3. Go to the Windows settings and allow hidden files to be displayed.
4. Search for the file known as "Deleted Items.dbx."
5. Delete the file once you find it.

That should solve the problem. Remember to go back into your settings and re-hide those files so you won't have to see them in all of your folders in the future.

Lee, those steps are only for Outlook Express, as it uses .dbx files. Microsoft Outlook uses just one big .pst file.
After checking all versions and SPs, check if the MS Outlook account is pop3 or Exchange, as that changes where the problem might come from. If it's OE, then it's surely pop3, it doesn't support Exchange.
Does she get an error if she moves a message to another folder? And what is she shift-deletes the email? If this last option works, perhaps the Deleted Items folder is corrupted.

What ALobpreis said..

If this is not a pop account(s) then check your ports and make sure they are correct. You will see these errors in trying to delete messages if they aren't the right ones.
