I'm spoiled.

I am sure there are people who did not buy Wolfenstein because it was not on Steam, and others because it was not on any digital program. Not sure why Raven refuses to put their new games out... could also be an id thing, as I believe they recently said no digital release of Rage or Doom 4.

That seems so backward - reminds me of when the music companies refused to allow legitimate online sales of their music through the Internet. I haven't purchased an actual CD in years, but I've purchased MORE music since I bought my iPod than I had for at least a five or ten years spread. It's time to evolve, id.

That being said, I was thinking a little on digital distribution and the actual number (I still wish someone like NPD would release actual digital sales numbers, but NPD if anything, has become less useful in recent months due to restricting sales numbers to paying customers)... Steam, D2D, etc... show their weekly sales, but in order to be #1 in 10 you really only have to sell at least 10 copies. If that's all that's sold, that's hardly a big deal.

However, I was thinking about games we KNOW are huge. Orange Box and Left 4 Dead specifically. These require Steam, so we know that people who bought those retail are aware of Steam (since I know not everyone is as in-the-know as we are ), and once they start to receive the pop-ups of new releases, they're likely to at least give it a try. So it's very possible that Steam has a much larger install base and purchase count than we expect.

Someday someone's going to have to release some numbers... I think, though, seeing CAPCOM, and others join the digital fray, that PC gaming is far and away more alive than the retail figures represent. Why Raven didn't figure this out is beyond me.

That being said, if this Tuesday wasn't the 15th of September I'd go grab Wolf (online says it's 'in stock' for a freaking change), but I have RE5 and Batman to play so either they'll be online by the time I'm ready, or there'll be a copy on the shelf waiting for me

You really do have to wonder just how well Steam games sell. No one has ANY idea other than Valve and their partners. You would think it is a decent amount, since so many games launch there on day one and have special deals for preorders and such, but then at the same time so many games ignore it at launch as if it isn't really neccessary.

So, who knows?

As I said earlier, Stardock said digital sales were 25% of Demigod's sales. If we factor in that Steam is much more popular than Impulse, we could be talking about a lot of sales.

Any idea why they dont release that info?
Plus I am sure they sell a whole bunch of extra games simply because they have lots of "packs" with older and newer games.

It either because the sales are lower than people think, which makes them look bad, or higher than we think, which would make Gamstop start causing problems for the publishers.

That's Internet assumption, anyway.

They are a private company... perhaps they just like to be coy.

I've heard that the 1.1 patch is leaked and not an official patch (and why there is no change log). I would assume an official patch is coming.

PC version only sold 17,000 copies. As Magus said when he read it, no wonder we only get quick ports. Want better PC games? Start buying PC games.
Just wanted to make sure we had updated information... it wasn't just poor sales on PC:

Not terribly good news for Activision, id or Raven, but news that helps shed a bit more light on those recent layoffs at the developer.
Here's to hoping that Singularity, Raven Software's other first-person shooter, fares better with its new release date.

Yeah, I read that... it's a PC series, so the PC being so poor in sales was my first concern.

I think console gamers are just fed up with average FPS games... I don't think any of them will sell well for a long time.

I think what killed this game is that it looked so generic.

CoD 5 was proof that people are tired of the World War II setting.

Does this game have any features that make it any different than Return to Castle Wolfenstein other than the updated graphics?

Personally I loved RTCW because the MP was so simple.

It's much more over the top, with an open world feel, collectibles and that Raven polish.

Singleplayer is very worth playing.

I don't buy games in stores anymore unless it is not available on Steam or D2D. But I wanted to play Wolfenstein so I went to my local Target store and picked it up. When I got to the checkout the clerk needed to scan my drivers license? I have never seen that before, but I haven't bought a game in a store in a long time.

Personally I think buying games by download is better than going to stores and I am sure it is gaining popularity.
