Default multiseat signal loss issue/GeForce 9300/nForce 730i/ubuntu 9.04

I'm currently running the ubuntu stock deb v180.44 of the nvidia drivers on a core2quad with a GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i.

Problem is, im running a multi-seat setup with one monitor off vga and one off hdmi.
-When i run X on one monitor everything is fine.
-When i run X on the other, the first is blanked and has no signal. The second runs fine.
-Bringing up monitors in reverse order affects nothing
-When i then kill the second, the first returns without issue

As an aside... Bringing up two monitors with or without twinview/xinerama is not an issue. However, everything 3D related sends the server into 100% cpu usage after a short while. (Thank god for quad cores and single threaded X servers!)

A big difference i noted between my and other setups is in mine the chip for both monitors has the exact same pci address.
If i had to guess, i would assume bringing monitors up separately for this chip an unhandled use case in the screen init code.
Since i also read that nvidia pointedly does not care to support multi-seat users i don't expect much by way of response though i'd be grateful for anything.

Also, i don't have a wide latitude to mess with the drivers much as system stability is paramount. And though my fix (using xephyr) is far from optimal, it works well enough. That said, when ubuntu blesses v185 i will look forward to try it.

Basically i am just polling for a clue from devs or users who know:
- if my chipset is supposed to be _well_ supported
that is, not a binary yes/no, but how well... (is there a site for chip support status?)
- if my issues are normal/expected (i.e. coded that way for some reason)
- any hope for fixes/support in the future.

I guess others have this problem too:
Perhaps the DPMS stuff is a potential fix?

Are you trying to run two separate X servers on one GPU at the same time? If so, they can't both be active at the same time, since only one driver can drive the hardware at any given time. You might be able to do it if you put a second GPU in there, but please be aware that even that configuration is not officially supported by NVIDIA.

That is the essence of multiseat. so, yeah i was running two servers. i know it's not officially supported as my initial post states, but was hoping to get some answers to the questions i asked anyway. Any ideas?
