Thank you for your bug reports. I filed a bug and will try to take a look soon (the problem has been observed on a coworker's system).

You don't even need a special laptop to reproduce the problem, it also ocurrs on a several (if not all) Nvidia ION-based Atom mainboards. I think, NVidia should have some of them

Getting access to Ion systems is not as trivial as you may think. In any case, I looked at the problem briefly today. The patch below should fix the problem when applied to the affected 190.xx driver releases.

Hi zander,

thanks for the patch - the Atom/ION bord is now able to suspend/resume again.

Hi zander

my last post was a little bit to soon. With your patch, suspend/resume works, but only once! If i try to suspend again, the system wakes up immediately.

Interestingly, this only happens on on-board GPUs: I tried on Atom/ION, NVidia Geforce 8300/AMD and on an Intel Core2 system with PCIe Geforce 9400. The PCIe system works without any trouble, both onboard-GPU systems fail the same way after the first successfull suspend.

Code:
dmesg after failed suspend:

NVRM: Xid (0002:00): 65, CMDre 00000000 00000080 00000000 00000005 00000008

@foobar80: that looks like a separate problem, please start a new thread with (a) new nvidia-bug-report.log file(s).

Problem solved. The reason was another hardware issue (USB autosuspend). Seems like the very fast resume after suspend caused the NVRM message. Perhaps a race condition in the driver?

@foobar80: more likely, X wasn't notified and didn't leave its VT.

Thumbs up Re: 190.25 breaks supend on 9400M G in a Dell Studio XPS 13

Zander, thank you very much for the fix in 190.42. My Dell 14z with 9400M G now suspends and resumes correctly, every time. It is so good to have the latest driver be usable again. Sometimes a small fix makes a big difference, and this made my day. Thanks again for your help!
