So my neighbor wants me to upgrade this rig of his, and its old but main problem I see is GPU, but I need options on GPU's that will work with this thing. Let me give you rig details
AMD Athlon 64 3000 Newcastle ASUS K8N Nforce3 250 ASUS 5900XT 1gb DDR400 80gb HD 16x DVD-Rom 16x/48/32/48 DVD/CD-RW 450W Antec True Power Now the biggest problem I see is a 5900XT there, but the AGP market seems to have dried up. I found these forsale on my local craigslist but dont know if its worth it, max budget is 50 bucks for this guy 6800GT $40 7800GS $50 7600GT $45 6800 Ultra EE $40 6600GT $25 I found an x1950pro for $80 but not sure its worth spending 80 bucks on this rig and he doesnt have it. He plays CSS mainly so It doesnt have to be a supercard, just a good match, and i mentioned ATI and he said he never heard of them and didnt want to use them. His brother built this for him back in 2004 |

It would seem that the budget dictates the choice...7800 GS.

....7800GS !
![]() EDIT:- And for people like DARKSF who wish to try and get a bit more from their 5900XT, the attached Darksf_02.zip file contains 2 modded bioses. One is a Aopen 5900XT which many people have found excellent; and the other is a BFG5950U type just for those who would like to try going up market. Both bioses have a relaxed Latency mod to improve memory overclocking/performance and have also been set to run at 300/425/800 (2D/3D/Mem) ---> which are levels that most 5900XT type cards should be capable of running? Obviously you can change the Bios's default speeds to anything you want. However, you should only consider increasing the Bios's Core/memory speeds after you have established your card's Max STABLE overclock capabilities. And when overclocking your 5900XT, or any vga card for that matter, it is very important that you also give consideration to upgrading your cards heatsinking. Otherwise your selected overclocks may not run stable; especially during Gaming, etc? ![]()
