Question about File Transfer over Gigabit Ethernet

Why in the heck is it going so slow? I've had faster transfer rates than this.

I've got two PCs (gaming and HTPC), both have 1Gbps NICs and they are both connected directly to my Gigabit Ethernet switch. Any clue? I thought it was faster than this . . .

LOL. As soon as I posted this up, the file transferred in seconds. WTF?

Yeah the second speed is more usual for me. Maybe a bit higher than that, but it's usually ~50-60MB/s. It's probably just Vista. I've noticed that if I try to transfer a folder of small files (like each file in the KB's each) it takes FOREVER but if I do a 2Gb file it screams along really fast.

That has to do with how a certain setting (forgot what it is, nekro knows it). From my understanding, it determines how much data to cache before sending it and it can be adjusted to be optimized for smaller files or larger files.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. You may want to PM nekro, IIRC he has experience with all this.

Thanks for the response guys. It's Windows 7 BTW.

Since this was a temporary setup, I'm not worried about it so much. However, I will have all of my desktops physically wired for Gigabit. Maybe once it's a more permanent setup I won't have this problem anymore.
