Default GTX 295 openSUSE 32bit settings help

Hello,

I'm in need of some help to get both gpu's working on my openSUSE 11.1 32bit Linux distro. I have tried the multigpu=on and sli=auto setting to no avail. gpu 1 is getting used of course, but gpu 2 just sits there doing nothing. During benchmarking cpu 1 heats up like normal and gpu 2 does not heat up. When I set sli=auto I see that powermizer is gone for gpu 2 and it says x screens is screen 0, but no display devices for the gpu. Also under this configuration I get just a little over half the performance as when I do not use sli-auto. My replaced 9800 GTX+ scored better then that. I need to get this working as I love my openSUSE or is this card not fully functional with Linux?

Thanks!

So I take I am going to have to leave the Linux world to have my GTX 295 work properly?

Which driver version are you using? Can you post the bug report log?

A few questions:
What are you using as a benchmark?
What CPU do you have?
Have you tried / has this worked in 64bit before?
How much RAM do you have? Does your kernel see it all if it is over 3GB?
What driver are you using? The .run installer, or a SuSE RPM?

System specs are as follows

Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard
Intel Q9650 cpu
4GB G.Skill memory
EVGA CO-OP Superclocked Edition GTX 295
ABS/Tagan 1100watt psu

openSUSE 32bit with kernel 2.6.27.29-0.1-pae
Yes it does see and use all 4GB of memory
I have not used/tried 64bit

I have tried both openSUSE nVidia repository driver and the 185.18.36 *.run driver installed from level 3.

The benchmark program is Unigine Tropics and Sanctuary programs.

http://unigine.com/download/

GPU 2 never gets out of Performance Level 0 and never heats up during any use, be it normal or benchmarking.

When I add the multigpu=on or sli=auto to my xorg.conf file the benchmarks scores half of what it does without either setting. Also as stated gpu 2 never heats up as in being used and gpu 1 does.

I have searched with no answer as to how to get gpu 2 in use?

One thing I have thought could be stopping it from working is the fact my motherboard is not an SLi motherboard and openSUSE refuses to put the video card into multigpu mode? But that being said on a Windows os this is not an issue.

Also when I try the 190.* driver my system fails to start.

I am on SuSE as well. My system:

OpenSuSE Linux 11.1 (x86_64)
EVGA 780i FTW Motherboard
Intel Q6600 on Water
Dual PSU : 800W BFG PSU (Mobo / HDDs / 1x GTX 260 ) / 850W Corsair PSU (2x GTX 260)
3x EVGA GTX 260 GPUs
8GB of RAM

I'm not sure how PAE kernels behave. PAE allows you to access more than 3.3GB of memory on the system under 32bit OSes (which is why you can see all 4GB), but there are probably some performance caveats, and it does not allow applications to go beyond ~2GB of usage each without using mmap or some other addressing hack.

Why? Do you have a specific compatability need that requires you to use the PAE kernel instead? I'm not necessarily blaming PAE, I've just found the 64bit counterparts very stable. I haven't had any major issues.

I am familiar with both benchmarks, I use them for benchmarking my system. Good, we can probably do some testing.

Could you send your Xorg.conf.0 file when you enable SLI? Also, the output of /sbin/lspci would probably be helpful. And notably, Windows is almost certainly not using PAE.

What error does it fail with?

Do you currently have a GTX 295 working properly with both gpu's being used?

Not currently. I have three GTX 260s.

Appreciate your zeal, but I have run cards in SLi configuration with no issues before. This seems to be a whole different issue with the GTX 295.

Anyone have a GTX 295 working both gpu's?
