Hey im stuck in the age of a BFG 6800 GT right now and this thing has bothered me for years with how much noise the fans made on it, Im starting to get an upgrade itch but want the quietest thing possible after having the god forsaken wind tunnel noises vibrating through my skull all the time.
So just wondering how loud the newer cards are, and what brands are better now adays etc.. any infos on the subject would be nice. thx |

Best bet would be an after market cooler from thermalright or arctic cooling.

I am looking at the cooling used on the 285 and the arctic heatpipe unit is fat, it will make your card take 3 slots. Also some reports of problems with it not fitting well.

My XFX GTX285 Black Edition runs great, but it really is a bit on the loud side for my tastes. Hopefully, the next-gen cards will be quieter and I'll pass this card to my son.

I guess any brand is gonna be loud still and after market is still the way to go? bummer... ive had mine for so long any computer noise for me now is like a psychotic trigger, I hate turning my computer on. |

my 295 would sound a little noisy under load but my 5 case fans and 2 cpu fans and the 9600 fans all combined are louder
the 8800gt before it WAS louder the the others combined though and so i had taken the stock cooler off and added a thermalright hr-o3 passive cooler |
