Free Windows 7 Professional at launch events across the US

Starting September 28 through November 4 Microsoft is hosting free Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 and Exchange Server 2010 launch events across the United States as part of the "New Efficiency" marketing campaign. Attendants of the event will get a free copy of Windows 7 Professional while supplies last.

Here are the list of cities the launch event will be at and the dates the event will be held:

* Boston - Oct. 5
* Chicago - Oct. 20
* Cleveland - Oct. 12
* Dallas - Nov. 4
* Denver - Sep. 24
* Detroit - Oct. 28

* Kansas City - Nov. 4
* Los Angeles - Oct. 28
* Miami - Sep. 24
* Minneapolis - Sep. 24
* New York City - Oct. 20
* Orange County - Oct. 26
* Philadelphia - Sep. 28
* Phoenix - Sep. 28
* Pittsburgh - Sep. 30
* Portland - Oct. 14
* San Diego - Oct. 26

All you need to do is go here, select your city and register for the event. You can choose to focus on either IT or developer sessions and then pick what product you want to "Deep-dive" into for the afternoon.

Since I have already preordered W7 Pro, I kind of happy not to find my city on the list. I already have WS2K8 SP2, is WS2K8 R2 a free update, or would I have to pay for it?

Nah the piece of sh*t 93 toyota truck I drive right now is a stick shift and there is a direct highway route (no stop and go at all) to get there, so it gets better gas mileage than the majority of the good cars that people drive.

Maybe not 90 minutes either, maybe more like 60. It is all the way in north Phoenix, and I am on the southern border of Mesa.

The closest location to me is Dallas, which is 260 miles away, so 540 miles roundtrip. I might consider that, if I owned one of those new Chevy Volts, but I don't, so I won't.

That depends on why and who you're going for. If you just sign up and attend to get a free copy of windows I'd agree thats probably not all that cost effective.

if you work in IT. and you're attendance is approved as job related you would not only be paid to attend but also eligible to expense some or all of the mileage accrued in getting to and from . The copy of Windows would just be a perk.
