I was almost going to run out and buy Risen but after reading through this thread, the reviews and playing the demo....I decided I am going back to my original plan and not buying Risen until some future date when "there is nothing good to play"

The PC version of this game pretty much kicks ass. If you are a fan of the Gothic series at all you should give this game a shot. It also doesn't seem to suffer from the "released 6 months early" problems of previous games from these guys.

As for performance issues, I'm not really seeing any, as my fps hasn't dropped below 60 yet. Of course this is with a 295, YMMV.

Oh, and the low reviews you guys are seeing are all from the 360 version, which is a horrible, horrible conversion. My only huge gripe is the lack of AA, which is just not cool in this day and age.

I am liking the game a lot, I never finished Gothic, but I remember the spell system of the game rocked. It's still early in the game but I haven't found out how to cast magic yet, but I hope that the system from Gothic is still in there. The combat seems a bit repetitive so far though, but it is fun though your character is pretty outclassed when dealing damage.

Just force it... vanguard profile in nHancer. Doesn't even lower my performance, really.

Yeah, i've since found that little tip on another site. Super-Sampled AA is a godsend with all the trees, bushes and grass.

This game has amazing atmosphere, and without the jaggies it's heaven!

JoWood(publisher) decided it’s time to change the developer. From one of the highest renowned role playing game developers, Piranha Bytes were accused of loosing their touch and being a mere shade of what they were. But they didn’t like that. So they decided to fix this by fixing everything with their next project – Risen, while giving us more Gothic. The result – a game that deserves to be nominated for RPG of the year..

My final judgment on Risen is – a true masterpiece and one of the few games that deserve wasting your money on. Especially if you like action RPG’s and great stories. The game is just so good! There’s nothing you can say that will you excuse you for not playing it.

How much is this on Steam? It's not available here :: Might someone be able to gift it to me after a paypal transaction? Funny how they banned this and not The Witcher. I heard a rumour Atari submitted the Witcher, it didn't pass, they intended to submit the German Build. They actually submitted the uncut one again and it passed. So that's how we got The Witcher.

The game is 55USD on play-asia. That's round 60AUD.

It costs $50 on Steam. You're probably better off getting it off Play-Asia, might be easier for you that way. It seems that once you install the game on Steam, it still requires some sort of online activation through Tages DRM. According to things I've read online, it's unlimited activation and if you have the retail copy, it only does a CD-Check, doesn't require online. Hopefully that's true because I wouldn't want to be limited to how many times I install it.

Hmm... downloading the demo. Never played a Gothic game, so no idea if I will enjoy it... hopefully it sucks so I don't feel the need to buy it.

Look at that first screenshots - can you sense the urge to explore that ruin? - that is what this game is about.
Finding yourself in over your head, retreating, getting stronger, returning and finally triumphing.Love it.
The scenery looks great, but the character graphic and animation is not as good.
I hope this game becomes a massive succes - it deserves it - so their next game can marry this gameplay with higher production values.
