I read somewhere that Risen sold a million already so that is very good news. Most of it was probably in Europe and such, but it's not like that matters since you can always bet on some form of US release.

I often wonder just how much of a niche I really am.

I think its a fair review. 7.1 out of 10 is not exactly bad. I just finished the game myself and think its pretty darn good but it really does have some issues. I agree with the review on the combat. Its ok but fighting multiple enemies is a chore at times with the annoying auto targeting system and I think your dodge move is a bit slow. That last part may be more my fault as I'm a touch slow at times on the keyboard but I had a tough time being successful with dodging. I also had enough of piranha bytes putting in enemies that poke you to death.

I wish there were more humans strewn around the island like the bandits you occasionally bump into in the Gothic games. Its mostly just animals and some ogres/gnomes. I would have liked more one handed swords as I found that the game had way too many two handed blades. Don't get me started on the tiny choices of armor as well.

Would also be nice if those small ruins you find had stuff worth looking for. The game does look quite nice at times and is one of the few rpgs where a torch is super handy.

Good game overall but I think Gothic 2 is the best Piranha Bytes game. Just my opinion though. I hope the game does well and we'll see a sequel or something. Maybe an adventure with Patty in the next game or maybe Patty as the main character since you have some background info on the whole Steelbeard pirate stuff.

edit: ok..he gives it a decent 7.1 score but in the end says it falls short of being worth your time. what? Not a good ending to the review.

I just finished Risen after playing on and off for the last few months.

Overall I really enjoyed the game! If you like RPGs with fun/tough combat and a good storyline, you will like Risen.

The end got a bit tedious, collecting all the armor pieces but I enjoyed it none the less.

Did anyone else think the lizards were very hard to fight until you go the titan armor? I really had a tough time with them and mostly I would run them to spike in the floor traps to meet their death...

The lizardmen were tough, yes.

Pay the $50 Nekro, this game was awesome.

Agreed.

I'd have a hard time recommending this to anyone I know personally because its so unforgiving and non-casual, but anyone who likes a challenging and rewarding action RPG should definitely play this game.

Definitely one of my favorite games of recent years.

39.99 on D2D...haven't pulled the trigger yet myself though. 29.99 or less and I will jump on it. The Gothic/Risen series are still the only games that make me remember/miss the Ultima series (ultima 7 parts 1 +2 best rpg evar)

Welp, just got around to start playing this game. Entered Chapter 1 and did one little quest for a guy at the farm and called it a day. Anyone have any tips for me? I got that sword from that guy's house, but I can't even kill those pigs or normal wolfs nearby. Should I be able to kill those yet or not? I can't block their attacks.
