Default GeForce 8400, Opensuse 11.1, Blank window for AtomEye viewer

Dear all,

I'm using OpenSuse 11.1 Linux x86_64 with a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card. The system has been working OK until I tried to use the molecular visualizer AtomEye. ( see http://mt.seas.upenn.edu/Archive/Graphics/A/ ) The application seems to run OK, but the graphics window, in which a molecular configuration should appear, remains blank. In fact, it appears transparent, showing whatever is underneath it on the Desktop.

I have tried different drivers (185.18.36 and the beta version 190.36) but the problem remains.

Any ideas?

Are you using a composite manager? It sounds like this application is erroneously choosing the 32-bit ARGB visuals. Try setting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 in the environment before running the application.

I just tried that. Didn't work. The problem stays the same. I did get the following messages though:

AX_plugin_Scan_module: red mask not working
colormap id = 0x3400001
