mouse cursor remains in other screen edge

I have a problem with my mouse cursor after installing the linux driver. I have looked for a similar problem on this forum, but have not been able to find anyone who seems to have the same problem.

My problem is that when I move the mouse cursor between one screen and the other (I have two displays) the mouse cursor leaves an image of the cursor at the edge of the screen where it left the screen, as the cursor appears in the other screen. The problem occurs going both directions. When the screensaver (xscreensaver) starts, the frozen mouse cursor is not erased by the screensaver.

I am running kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 3.5.10 on an amd64-bit system and the driver I have loaded is NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2. My kernel is 2.6.28-15-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP and the video card is based on a GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS. Has anyone else had this problem? Or can anyone help me solve this problem?

Not familiar with kubuntu 9, but I would bet that problem would not happen in non-KDE desktop. Try using gnome and see if issue still exists.

It's not a KDE problem, it's a known bug in the X server with Xinerama. The bug is mentioned in this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=132687

There is an X server patch mentioned in that thread that is supposed to fix this problem.

What conky said. Also, it should be fixed in xserver 1.7 when it comes out hopefully very soon.

Thank you, conky for your information and the link. I looked for the patch, but I am not sure I would be confident enough to try applying a patch without understanding more about it. I do hope it will be in the X server 1.7 as AaronP predicts and I hope 1.7 will be in kubuntu soon.

Thank you, AaronP for your information. I, too, hope that it will be fixed in xserver 1.7 and I hope xserver 1.7 will be in kubuntu soon.
