Looks like I came to the right place ( NOT! ) I came here looking for help with the same card, dayum, a month and not single reply???!!!!

1. make sure, you do not have any package named "nvidia*" installed.
2. first log out or your graphical environment 3. switch to a virtual terminal ctrl+alt+F1 4. run Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop 5. run the installer. 6. run Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start |
