Default not sure where i messed up with the install

Im running Suse 8.2 with a Nvidia Geforece 256, and a stock kernel.

i tryed to use the instructions that Nvidia had on their site but had no luck with the install...

then i saw this

cp /boot/vmlinuz.config /usr/src/linux/.config
cp /boot/vmlinuz.version.h /usr/src/linux/include/linux
cp /boot/vmlinuz.autoconf.h /usr/src/linux/include/linux
cd /usr/src/linux
make cloneconfig dep

i tryed this and then i ran the installer. when my comp goes into X everything works fine but SaX2 still shows that my video card is "Unknown Unknown". so i went to change the card to its correct setting of Geforce 256, yet when i try to Finalize i get a X server test failed error.

the error reads:
(EE) Unable to determin the screen layout
(EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile()

Any one have any thoughts... i will post my logs in a bit... i need to get back to my linux box to get them.

Problem #1 I see in the log is that you're loading the wrong module as the card driver. You've still got the "nv" module loading (which is the default kernel nvidia card driver) rather than the accelerated nVidia driver module called "nvidia".

So, the modification to the config file which specifies the driver module either isn't done, or wasn't obeyed by sax2.

Possible misinformation coming right here (since I'm a RedHat guy).
Edit the file: /etc/X11/XF86Config
manually, changing the line
Driver "nv"
to read
Driver "nvidia"

Then do the sax2 magic again and see if it works better. If sax2 messes up that driver line you'll have to just add it after sax2 is done.

Default well it kinda works

ok i did what you said. I also did some looking around, and found that the installer never copied the files over for /usr/src/nv/... nor did it copy any other files that it should of... so i manually copied all the files within the installer.

know when the comp boots up, i get a quick Nvidia splash screen then the login. Once logged in i dropped into SaX2 to find that
it still thinks i have a dual head video card.

graphics (0) --- still named (Unknown Unknown) and is runing off default vga drivers

graphics (1) --- has no name and is running off of nvidia drivers.

still wont let me add 3d accel, because it says there is not a 3d accel card in the comp

a little info on the Geforce 256
it has daul monitor support but one of the connections on the card is the LCD style connector. the other is standard monitor connect.
