Default lenovo T61 thinkpad resolutions

Hello,

I have a very persistant problem trying to switch the resolution to something a generic projector can display.

nvidia settings offer the following resolutions:
1680x1050
1280x1024
1280x960
640x512
640x480

Why is 1024x768 missing? as well as 800x600
I can force the projector resolutions to be whatever I want, but most projectors will not support such high resolutions (the first three).

I tried tweaking the xorg.conf, but had no success yet.

I basically used the xorg.conf generated by nvidia settings and tried to add additional modelines generated by the modeline generator.

i also tried some twinview options and matamode options, but it ist really hard to go through all possible xorg.conf tweaks without knowing what to do exactly.
