KDE 4.3.2 with compositing locks up X every few seconds

With KDE 4.3.2 I'm having issues with X lockup up every few secs. Usually it comes back and sometimes KWin turns off compositing, telling me that it was too slow. The lockups freeze X completely, and sometimes even the mouse pointer.

I'm currently running xorg-server 1.7.0.902 and kernel 2.6.31.4.

Not always, but during the longer hangs, this message appears in Xorg.0.log:

[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

I'm using the 190.42 driver, but the problem still exists with the 190.36 driver.

The problem does go away completely when composite is disabled though.

Try disabling UseEvents.
