Running 1680x1050 4af no aa(somehow I lately dont use aa in most games... Maybe I got smarter and watch at gameplay now?)
Yeah, the game just hates framerate dips.

I'll see if dynamic shadows off is acceptabel... that doesn't turn off all shadows, right?

I'm not having any slowdowns with AA at 1920x1200. I'm currently running 4xAA, forced VSync through nHancer using the AA Compatibility Mode "00000041: Unreal Engine 3". All in-game settings are set 'on' or 'high'. Is that the mode you've been using, NarcissistZero?

I used 41 before, then the 105 or whatever Magus linked to.

You having no issue makes sense, you have SLI, I do not. Your second card is doing all the AA and such. I think the game should be more optimized though, since I can run Crysis on high with 4xAA and force 16xAF and get a very smooth experience.

True, though I don't know what resolution you're running at... if you're also at 1920x1200, then yeah.

What AA are you using in nHancer? Multisampling? Have you tried lowering it to 2x?

I'm running 1920x1080... I might try 2xAA, but then I wonder the point of it, lol. I tried super sampling because sometimes in a game with no AA setting SSAA is actually easier on it, like Mass Effect or Risen, but in this game it lowers me to like 15fps.

Well 2xAA is better than 0xAA I'm guessing you're also using 191.07?

What type of framerates are you seeing? I have a similar setup to you (QX 6850 @ 3.33ghz and SLI GTX 275).

I have VSync enabled, and I'm usually in the mid 50s to low 50s. Not sure what it is with VSync disabled.

On a side note, just saw this on the Steam forums, could be a handy tool (assuming it's not a trojan, I haven't tried it myself yet ):

Wow, the community has gone to work on this game.

Anyway, HicZok was right, dynamic shadows are the massive resource hog here. Turned them off and with vsynch and 4xAA I never got anything less than 60fps and I never felt one stutter in over an hour of gameplay. Oddly, I don't think the game looks worse, if anything getting rid of the jaggry shadows makes it look crisper, and the static shadows are still there.

So yay.

Just ran into this (haven't tried it yet myself, but the before-after pictures appear to show it works).

Running in DX10 mode:

1. Go to the directory --> C:\Users\[Your user Name]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config
a. Find the file WillowEngine.ini (make a copy and rename it as a backup)

2. Find the section [SystemSettings]
Change the following settings to True, you will see if you are currently in DX9 as well.

- AllowD3D10=True (this is the key one to enable the DX10 render engine)
Also change the following

- MotionBlur=True

- DepthOfField=True

- Bloom=True

- UseHighQualityBloom=True

- FogVolumes=True

All of these steps come to us from a user-posted comment on Shacknews."

I haven't tried this yet, but I will when I get home.

If it works, not sure how this will affect the performance or AA. Will try when I get home.

That just looks like depth of field on and off.

Yeah, Precision still says D3D9 rendering, these settings do nothing.

Ah, well. I still love the look of the game; as long as we're getting maximum visuals, I'm happy
