No clearly you do not. The combat in DAO is turn based, It does all the calculations in the background much like NWN and Baldurs Gate. There is a reason that an NPC dies even if its running away and out of reach because the attack was already in que even though the animation hasn't been done.

No one claimed that, I just explained that I found the story in dragon age origins lacking soul.

I'm also having some battle issues as well, as I can't seem to get my group set up correctly(some just stand there when the enemies attack), so could someone please enlighten me on how to set my group up correctly?

I guess it's just personal preference - I did the noble origin it had a few moments or characters that were really sad/funny/annoying etc. Plus I was pretty shocked by the ending of Ostagar.
I think you have to really try and get into it and listen to the dialogue and read everything - the more you put in...I also think the characters have the most realistic personalities of any i've seen in a game, Morrigan and Shale are my favourites.

As an aside, I still can't get over the deep roads quest, it was a truly awesome adventure, exactly the kind of thing I play these games for. The fact that it was really hard made it even better.

See? A good butt-numbing 4 hour straight gameplay will do you good.

I did some other quests but I am in the Mage Tower now. It's killing me. Little by little.

Awesome though.
