If you tried to run GTA IV on a PC clock for clock the same as a console, haha, good luck with that. :p
With the same resolution and level of detail that is set on consoles it's easy even on 2 cores ( Xbox 360 CPU got 3 cores) C2D processor with 3.2GHz clock.

Well the console version runs at 1080p doesn't it? A C2D is not good enough for this game, you can see it threads and that's why a Quad runs it much better.

Try running GTA IV on a 7800GTX and a dual core, it's piss poor and I remember that I couldn't play the game at 1024x768 without it lagging badly. The simple fact is, the game it very taxing on hardware, up there with Crysis.

The amount of detail and AI in the game is awesome, no wonder it needs a very good rig to play at at high settings.

Nope, it's 720p for Xbox and 630p for PS3. You really can run it like on console with C2D 3.2GHz On consoles this game likes to slow down sometimes too

How much system ram does GTAIV use with 8gb and the memory use limit disabled and the settings pushed up?

I don't know what you're talking about. A c2d E6600 will run the game fine, just don't expect much over 30 fps. Now don't know about the 7800 GTX. But I was able to run settings higher than the xbox 360 version and get acceptable framerates (it's not like the consoles run it that great either they chug at times). Now that I have a quadcore it blows right past the console versions though. I believe the console upscales it from a lower resolution at 1080p.

The reason I said about the 7800GTX is because this is pretty much what the PS3 has, so if you're talking clock for clock, hardware for hardware it runs pretty bad on the PC.

I was running it at 800x600, medium settings, C2D 2.66Ghz, 7800GTX, 4gb of ram. Anything over 1024x768 on that hardware was unplayable for me, it was running the minimum spec but I'd rather play the console version than that crap.

I had an E6600 and an 8800 GTS and it ran fine for me at lower settings at 1920x1080. It was far from unplayable usually between 20-30 fps. I played through roughly half the game on it and I think I would have noticed if performance was that bad.

It's designed to spread its processes around 3 cores, not two. Pure processing power is only part of the equation. In the end a quad means you can run the game at 1080p with high res textures and get smooth performance, I know because I do it. It's a great game that way.

And it far from looks bad, I think the game often looks stunning.
