Default occasional screen blanks on dell d630 with quadro 135NVM

Hi

My dell D630 experiences occasional screen blanks (I could not find any rule to the blanking).
The screen becomes blank (but the backlight stays on). Login in from another computer shows that the x-server has crashed. The only way to recover is reboot.

System details:
I have debian sid updated daily (I like to live on the edge ...)
nvidia kernel modules are also installed from the debian non-free repository using:
m-a auto-install nvidia-kernel${VERSION}-source
All the relevant data is in the attached nvidia-bug -report file.
I run a pretty minimal x session - fluxbox + urxvt + gkrellm + Firefox + Thunderbird + xscreensaver
I do suspend to ram using pm-suspend

Thanks,
Shai

p.s. you really should reconsider the webmail baning rule - there is no reason I would have to use my work email to report a bug for my home system.

I also have a del d630 with nvs135 on it. I`m using opensuse 11.2 (previous opensuse 11.1) and is running without a problem.

Hi all,

It turns out this is a well known hardware problem with some Dell laptops which have Nvidia GPUs.
I contacted Dell and since my d630 is still under warranty (luckily I have a 2 year warranty extension) they will replace the gpu/motherboard free of charge.
I suggest that all owners of the relevant Dell laptops with nvidia gpus read the above Dell blog post, and if you are past your warranty period, try to get as replacement before it's too late.
