Question Acpi and Nvidia Driver

Are two days that I'm trying to get the nvidia driver working on SuSE Linux 8.2, Kernel 2.4.20, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, GeForce FX 5200. I tried varius time but the driver didn't work and i got a black screen with letters. Finally, running linux with various options i find the answer. If I run SuSE with the option acpi=off the driver works!!!

Why? There is a system to get the driver work with acpi support?

Smile X and Linux crash with kernel 2.4.20 & 2.4.21

I love you

It works on my system. I've just posted a message about a similar problem.
I thought it was due to a hard problem (my chipset, motherboard, etc...).

But, I don't know why we must disable ACPI...
I don't know if it's a nvidia driver error or a kernel error...

I believe that ACPI concerns power managment so as my computer isn't a laptop, it can be safely disabled.
