Default PC will not power off

Hi,

My PC will not power off. When I select "shutdown" everything shuts down as normal except it will not power off. I removed all my overclock settings and reset the BIOS to factory settings but still nothing.

I'm using DFI X58T3h6 MB, I7-920 CPU, EVGA GTX-285 video card. Check sig for complete specifications.

Any thoughts?

Thank You!

uncheck everything from startup and reboot. Make sure it's not some app hanging up on you.

It could be something in your BIOS as well. I would put everything back to default, and then start changing it out one by one.

Try shutting it down in safe mode and see if you get the same thing. Also unplug unnecessary usb devices from the machine and see if it shuts off.

Hey Gery! I will try that when i get home. I guess i should boot in Safe Mode and try that too.

DiscipleDOC, I did put everything back to factory settings, still the same issue.

Butter Bandit, I'm not really sure, my first guess would be hardware/software issue since I did put everything to factory settings and it still will not turn off.
Any YES, if I hold down the power button it will power off.

Yeah, it really sounds to me like a program is hanging it up. Hope it works for you.

you still have the 7 RC?

in that case go to computer management, event viewer, applications and services logs, microsoft, windows, diagnostics-performance.

and look for stuff like this

Quote:
Application of machine policy caused a slow down in the system start up process:
Name : MachinePolicyApplication
Total Time : 11774ms
Degradation Time : 3750ms
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2009‎-‎11‎-‎26T19:35:49.640625000Z
Quote:
This driver took longer to initialize, resulting in a performance degradation in the system start up process:

Friendly Name : Symantec AutoProtect

Total Time : 1751ms
Degradation Time : 791ms
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2009‎-‎11‎-‎19T03:07:09.625000000Z
also in bios set ACPI power to S3 not S1
