NVIDIA Geforce GT 220 (OEM only)

Has anyone gotten one of these cards? My brother (in another state) just got one with a new Core2Quad DDR2 system and I don't know what games to tell him to buy because I have no idea what this thing can do!

It "looks" pathetic but it's 40nm technology and has 1GB of RAM I can't find any reviews or benchmarks on the thing I just want to know if it'll run Left 4 Dead in Geforce 3D Vision well.

Geforce GT 220 is a higher clocked and packed more steam processors than Geforce 9500GT with 48 vs 32 steam processors but it has the same memory bandwidth.

Nvidia got Geforce GT 220 spec on their site.

Can you ask your brother to run DXVA Checker on his PC and make a PNG screenshot? I'd like to see what the GT 220 GPU can do in terms of hardware accelerated decoding. Thanks.

One arrived in a New Dell studio 540 (NVIDIA GeForce GT220)

Works well under windows NO WAY can any one including dell get it to work under LINUX
(ubuntu 9.10)

Tearing our hair out as nice 24 inch screen is useless under linux
First time poster so any clues very happy to try .

Actually I just got my brother's working very nicely in Ubuntu 9.04 (I don't believe 9.10 is out yet, since October still isn't here...)

You need to manually install the beta drivers for it. nVidia doesn't list them on their website, but it works very nicely. I can't find the exact link we used at the moment, but see if this works for you:

The specs don't look so good.

It'll probably run Left 4 Dead alright, but not at a very high resolution and definitely not with 3D Vision.

The card is somewhere between the 9500GT and 9600GT on paper, though I'm guessing its much closer to the 9500GT in performance. Which is bad.

It's hard to tell what this card can do because Nvidia continues to rebadge old technology. In essence, Nvidia wants to confuse customers into thinking the GT 2xx cards are something new when they are still based on the older G92 technology. Like the post above states, the card is probably equivalent to a 9500 GT, maybe a little better. Don't think for a moment that it will be able to run any modern games decently. I'd replace it with another card as quickly as possible.

It should play most games easily, just not with high settings.

The GT 220 is not a rebadge of anything, please don't spread misinformation. It's a 40nm GPU with 2 GTX200 style clusters, each with 24SP for a total of 48SP. It also supports DirectX 10.1, which means Nvidia did more plumbing to the architechture to support those features.

For HD decoding, the GT 220 finally also supports VC-1 and MPEG2 bitstreaming decoding(does all the decoding work on the GPU) as well as 8 channel LPCM support, which no previous G8x, G9x and G200 GPU support. So again, it's no rebadge because there's serious work done to add VC-1 & MPEG-2 bitstream decoding and 8 channel LPCM support.

This will be the best HTPC card because it uses less power idle and load thanks to the 40nm process, the only other discrete card that will use less power is the lower end G210 with 16SP.

Also the Geforce 191.07 WHQL drivers supports the GT 220 and the G210.

Yup, looks like a great HTPC card, but NOT a good gaming card.

Specs-wise, its got more potential than the xbox 360... Equivalent or more than the 7800gtx in terms of power..
