Question Where is the NVAGP module

- K7S5A/SI735 system
- PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5591/5592 AGP (rev 0).
- VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11DDR [GeForce2 MX 100 DDR/200 DDR] (rev b2)
- Mandrake 9.1 kernel

I was getting intermittent hard lock-ups that seemed to start when I moved to the latest drivers (4363). The readme hinted at considering AGP problems so I set

Driver "nvidia"
Option "NvAgp" "0"

and that seems to have stopped the rot.

Strictly speaking I don't need acceleraton as I don't play games, but I guess I should try to get AGP support. So I set

Option "NvAgp" "1"

But then found that no module was being loaded at all. No surprise when I looked more carefully and saw that the module was not installed. In fact I cannot find it at all in the NVidia install.

So my silly question is where is NVAGP?

It doesn't exist.

There is no separate module for AGP support when using "NvAgp" "1". It's all integrated into the nvidia.o kernel module.

If you use "NvAgp" "2" (or "3", the default), then you'll probably end up loading the agpgart.o kernel module. But that's just because that's the normal behavior for AGP under Linux, assuming AGP was compiled as a module -- setting "NvAgp" to "1" is something that only nVidia driver users even can do, and it's something that many of them don't do even though they can (for example, I still use the default, since agpgart.o works just fine for my KT333).

If /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status doesn't say that AGP is disabled, and you're using "NvAgp" "1", then you're all set -- it's working just fine.
