How does one update the driver for this device

you usually don't need to
but if you want to, step one is to find out who made that device it could be: Intel, nvidia, ATI, Jmicron, Marvell etc.. probably not Silicon image since last time i checked they don't use AHCI yet.

Google the model number and see if their website has an updated driver. If you're using 64-bit os, make sure you use a 64-bit driver.

If you want to update your drivers, you can update it by selecting update driver via Internet.
This option will update your drivers from vendors site automatically. |
