Red face help! is this going to work as i think it is or not?

just making sure if this is how it supposed to work before i buy it. So i got 1080p MKV with 5.1 on my laptop.. connecting HDMi cable from my laptop to the receiver and the other hdmi cable from the receiver to an HDTV.. am i gonna get 5.1 sound?

not sure... I think You should have alternate cable going from tv to speakers correctly... But I don't know really

That will depend on the source. DD/DTS 5.1 will play back in 5.1 although the receiver probably offers virtual 5.1 for any 2 channel material. Same limitations as spdif in that regard

you need to enable passthrough if your HDMI supports and then see if it can passthrought DD and DTS or just DD.

if you don't enable passthrought then in most cases it will send 2ch PCM audio
