I'd get this board http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGABYTE-GA-MA790X-UD3P

Or the ASUS 790X EVO with a Phenom II 965 125W processor.

The FX series of boards offers some additional features as well as 2 full 16X speed PCIE slots.

The 790X series offers lots of features but has only 1 full 16X speed PCIE slot. It supports crossfire...but the 2 slots would share bandwidth.

I've seen a recent review that even @8 times speed most modern cards ( I think it was a 5870) don't benefit that greatly from full 16X slots.

The 790X chipsets are about 40%-50% as expensive as the 790FX variants.

Stay away from the GX series of boards as they have onboard graphics...which you presumably don't need.

Cheers,

JC

The poll is going as i expected really 26 to 5 in favour of Intel, although Interestingly no one has any complaints with their Phenom Rigs. For my situation it probs make sense ,I'm looking forward to ordering my gear in a week or so after ebay sales starting tonight.

I have no fan boy Issues but always felt that Intel probs had the edge.

well the core i7/i5 wipes the floor with anything that amd has right now and the i5 is pretty cheap and consumes less power

Except when Intel releases their next batch of processors, any body running LGA1156 will be forced to purchase not just the new processor, but a new mobo as well. LGA1156 has about as much life in it as LGA775 does.

AM3 however, will see *many* new processors. Including AMD's 6 and 8 - core parts. It has a long life ahead of it, where as LGA1156 doesn't have any life ahead of it.

The only logical platform for Intel right now is LGA1366- but that's not quite cheap.

Thus, AMD fits nicely. Unbeatable performance for the price, with a lot of future upgrades available. Can't really go wrong there.

AMD Phenom II X4 965BE (125w)

and I don't regret getting it one bit.

Remember, AMD has 2... that's right, TWO unlocked Quad Cores below $200. Intel has none.

I'm all for having the most powerful processor of the time, but since I'm on a budget, I decided to support AMD. I was not disappointed either. For gaming, this processor rocks... hard.
