now = not wise
the current implemention of SATA 3.0 doesn't reach the full potential of SATA 3.0 performance wise most of these Marvell SATA 3.0 controllers at most will reach something like SATA 2.5 performance level. limitation of current chipsets. if you want proper SATA3, USB3, wait for new chipsets that support them

And by that point the SSD's will come down in price and harness the SATA3 speeds

Completely depends what chip the add on card uses. Usually Intel/AMD controllers are the best when it comes to on motherboard controllers, for add on cards there is usually a large price range so it depend on how much you pay.

Talking in general going off results from past controllers for SATA2/USB2.0 etc. Not much to compare to as far as SATA3/USB3 is concerned, but as you said before, in all likliness the current Marvell solutions will be surpassed once Intel/AMD release their new chipsets.
