You can still have a workgroup with XP/ Vista cant you?

I had networking set up with XP and it makes me both laugh and sad to read what people are discovering with win7.

My PC were already sharing data and printer with XP. My media center can watch series stored on my server, all my PCs can print on my unique printer connected to the server through USB. Nothing really new here. I agree that the setup is probably much simpler in win7, but it was doable and there were lots of tutorials online to do that.

Jeeze, lighten up.

I had no idea that you could do that with XP or Vista. If I had known, this thread wouldn't be here.

Either way, Windows 7 is great.

Just wondering, what other cool things can you do with windows 7 homegroups?

Well, you could accidentally share your PR0N with homegroups with Win7. Was much harder to do with XP or Vista.

Friggin public sharing!

My room has the only printer in the house... There are 5 other computers in the house....

core: WinXP (me/where the printer is)
ngz: debian squeeze
sparksbox: win7
oldz: win98
motherbrain: ubuntu
john-dorky: WinXP

all the computers are on DCC, which took 20 seconds to put on each computer (plus reboot time, except the linux boxes, they dont need to reboot after changing workgroup ). After the reboot, everyone can see each others shares, once connected, the drivers installed automatically and everything worked fine (except on linux of course lawl)

That was the main feature that I looked forward to when switching to 7. XP didn't do that for me. But as it was described, Windows 7 did.

Windows 7 sometimes even keeps my custom folder icons before it reverts them back to default... it's amazing!
