Just look at the unofficial community patch's changes log, all the fixed bugs were in still in the game after the latest official patch is applied, and when I discovered about that I was just blown away that I had barely ever noticed them, but when I played with those bugs fixed I noticed that all of a sudden my characters were doing much better in specific situations. It would take me hours to describe everything.

Ah ok, yeah that sort of balance stuff is kinda hard to notice.
Googled a bit and it seems you can apply that to the Steam version, might have to give that a go next time I need a fix in wait for D3.

I think TQ STILL looks great. I really liked it and got it and IT on one of the steam sales. Played it all the way through and enjoyed it.

I had the community patches installed as well as the camera mod that zooms further out.

I don't think that the game relies as heavily on smart character skill building as Diablo II does though and IMO that's where it suffers.. that and the slightly lacking dependency on good items... I also found that the balance between when you see awesome items at merchant shops that you desparately need and how long it will then take to build your character to meet the weapon's requirements are vastly out of whack.

I also liked the non randomized dunegon. I've yet to see a game with randomized dunegons STAY interesting and hold my attention.

Diablo II pulls it of just barely simply because you don't stay in those places very long. The scenery is always changing.

This was torchlight's biggest drawback. It was fun at first but 40~50 levels down into the never ending dungeon and I just quit. I hit the 100 level character cap and was practically invicible at that point and had to use custom made maps with nothing but boss monsters to provide a challenge. Seriously... a weapon that did 1500 damage per second and items giving me a 420% increase total to critical strike damage and +8 points total to the critical strike skill.. it was hilarious.

But that's ultimately the problem of all action-RPG games I've ever played, even the nearly perfect Diablo II suffers from it. There's always eventually going to be a point at which your character(s) has "the best" (or "most efficient" in regard to specific situations or counter-attacks for specific enemies) equipment and skills build, and then you pretty much beat all foes on your path with barely any (or none at all) challenge, with sometimes a few exceptions here and there (for instance, in Diablo II's case, exceptions would generally be Stygian Dolls, Souls, and packs of Blood Lords, but even they don't have a chance in face of some specific character builds, and as of patch 1.13 our good old Oblivion Knights became a bunch of sissies since they lost their Iron Maiden advantage against melee characters). It's certainly true for Torchlight since that game is very lighthearted and isn't very serious, just at the image of its balance, and it's also true for Titan Quest and Sacred/Sacred 2.

I presume that it will also be the case with Diablo III.

It seems like the patch didn't affect my hammerdin. I tried a spearazon and bowazon and I don't quite recall the sorceress build I tried but the hammerdin once properly built would simply erase the screen of even the strongest mobs. It was even more hilarious with other paladins in co-op with various aurora's going on.

It got tiresome though after years of building up those guys. I don't know if I'll play through DII any time soon. I'll probably just wait till III and maybe hit II years ahead for nostalgia similar to how I'll every now and then fire up the original half life and quake w/dark places mod.

This game actually looks pretty fun, much like Titans Quest was.

Unlike that dog sh*t game you guys love so much, Torchlight.
