Default Dead Space won't install!!

I've reloaded my system from vista 64 to win7 64 about a week or two ago. all my other games installed fine. I put the deadspace disk in and it gives the same error a guy over at gamespot forums had about a year ago saying

"the location you have selected can't be written to. Please select another location."

one suggestion was to install directx before trying to install the game. I went to the dx folder and installed it without any problems but the game's installer gets stuck at that same spot right when it begins to "copy new files".

I've tried copying the entire contents of the disk down to the drive I'm installing the game to as well as trying to run the installer in compatibility mode XP. My admin account that I'm logged in with has full control over all the files and folders so I'm not exacty sure what it's trying to write and where it's wanting to write to.

I've got a hunch it's wanting to drop stuff over in the system folders and if that's the case (which I've had happen with other software on rare occasions) I can go in and assign ownership to the system folders but I don't want to do that if I don't have to.

any ideas?

I had this error when I was installing crysis, it was totally retarded. and it would also stop at the the exact same place every time. I kept trying to install to alot of random places and eventually it worked. Hopefully you get it sorted out. Beautiful game.

well, I've had it installed easliy when I was running vista 64. It didnt' blink an eye when installing. I just tried giving myself full control and permissions to the system32 and system folder in the C:\Windows folder but that didn't help.

Sounds similar to mine. Admin account with full control, yet I still had to rt. click the .exe and run as admin.

Doesn't make sense, but it worked.

The only other things that have caused me issues were fixed by firmware update for my DVD (fixed my install Crysis) and if installing to a location other than default, creating the folder first in the location I want the game installed too, then pointing the installer to it. That was a Doom 3 problem I had back when Vista launched.

I couldn't even find anything but this thread on google for Dead Space issues

Just curious, do you have another optical drive you can try? Real long shot, just thought I would throw it out there.

Maybe tie the Dead Space serial key to Steam and then let steam install it. If it's possible to do that.

Just installed it on my fresh win7 install. Went without a hitch.

Rum Cooler's idea may be the best.
