Default Ubisoft to Require Constant Internet for Gameplay

Article on Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5457012/ubisofts-p...net-connection

I always said every game would be turned into an MMO-like online all the time thing because of piracy. Thanks pirates! I appreciate it!

That said I also blame Ubisoft, this is just punitive. That said, 12 million WoW players have made it clear they are cool with this sort of thing.

And I bet it will still be cracked for offline play anyway.

This is horrible. Ubisoft publishes some of the best PC games right now.

What happens when your internet goes down and you want to fire up some games to pass the time until civilization is restored?

My Internet is always on too but on the rare occasion that it does go down I will fire up single player games that I have been still to get through until I can get back online.

The thing is though, I will pretty much guarantee that this type of protection system will be cracked within weeks of the first game being released. So as usual the only one who is punished by these stupid DRM systems is the legitimate user.

if it hard coded in, doesn't bother me, but if there is some stupid easy way to disable it and pirates get around it quickly it will piss me off.

Just like GfW LIVE should disable the offline profile bull****, pirates love that ****.

Yeah they should require you to be online once to establish the legitimacy of the key and then it can be switched to offline mode if no net is found.

that would work, but offline profile from start should not be permitted.

If it's some simple online verification running in the background it will be cracked in weeks, if not less. If it is an MMO-like constant server connection and perhaps even file download it might take a lot longer, but I bet it will still happen.

That's the PC's greatest asset and greatest fault for companies, it's an open system anyone can play around with.

I mean I guess but I'm not sitting at my computer all day to the point where if my internet goes down I HAVE to find a single player game to play. This is pretty much a non-issue. I agree that some of the activation limits and BS like that are kind of annoying but the online stuff just isn't a problem.

yap, that should happen long time ago, would cut back on piracy. and after a year or so, they could release a patch to disable it and would contain the required files that were on server before.
