Question Very slow bitmap font rendering in KDE4 + workaround

Hello,

could somebody please comment on http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-7255 ?

Bitmap font rendering with Qt4 is very slow due to (presumably) the driver not accelerating 1bpp. Are there any plans to fix this problem in the driver or should the workaround provided in the bugreport be used?

Thanks

The solution is simple: don't use 1bpp. This is not something that modern GPUs can accelerate in a useful way.

Why isn't truetype or any other vector graphic used for all fonts in all cases?
