Default nvnet RH9 install problem

Ive had quite a bit of trouble getting redhat to recognise the ethernet controller. The RPM installs fine, however redhat will not activate the device, giving me the error "nvnet device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization". I followed the help given in this post, uninstalled the rpm and installed from the tarball. Now when i try and boot, the system hangs while "Finding module dependencies". I dont have a clue what this is or how to solve it, and i dont particularly want to have to reformat.. i dont have a boot floppy (I dont have a floppy drive)

This is my second night of using linux, and it just gets more and more frustrating.

It seems the boot problem was caused by having two kernels installed in the boot loader... I removed one of the entries, and after about 5 attempts at booting it now seems to load fine. I downgraded to an older version for the nvnet driver, and now the eth0 device is recognised. Back to some semblance of normality!
