I just got one of those monitors with pivot support -- you can flip it between normal ("landscape") and rotated ("portrait") modes. Is there any way to support the rotation with the current Nvidia drivers? I don't mind if I have to restart X, just wondering if there's any way to tell it that the display is sideways.
Thanks, Aaron |

Hi Aaron,
I got also interested in that, and I wonder whether you are still interested in that, since your posting is already some months old. At least with the nv driver of XFree86, the solution with a restart of X is quite straight forward. I used the Option "Rotate" in a second XF86config file (XF86config.portrait), and did then a startx -- :1 -xf86config XF86config.portrait and in my case I get a new X session in portrait mode. However, this is quite cumbersome, and a bit a waste of resources (also KDE complained a bit, but I had no serious flaws in first tests). I wonder whether there is a more elegant solution. Best wishes Robert |

I played around with xrandr and the drivers nv and nvidia a bit, but I usually got an error message like X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 I can not learn anything from that. Maybe I am not experienced enough. In the manpage of nv there is a comment on Rotate, which makes me quite pessimistic about nv and xrandr. With nvidia, there is quite a lot of options to adjust. The Readme of nvidia is quite lengthy with a lot of stuff, which is very hard to understand for me. So, an example XF86config, or a sort of roadmap would help me a lot. Thanks, Robert |
