Wait... So if my screen is 1680x1050 and doesn't have 1:1 aspect option then I will not be able to see whole screen with 1080p?
And as I understand ps3 cannot be set to 1280x720?? only to 1080p?? With my old 360 I had to use 720p becouse If I would go 1080 I was not able to see whole screen. And 720 was looking just fine. Offcourse then they added 16:10 support and i could use any res I want not bigger than my native So Can You explain it deeper? |

Yeah you can set the PS3 to do only 1280x720 in the display options. 1080p wouldnt work because your display doesn't support it.

I love my PS3. I had it hooked up to my Dell 2407 for a while (with HDMI - DVI converter plug). Works great, also, the 2407 has HDCP, so that helped.
But now I have it hooked up in my living room on my 52" Sony Bravia @ 1080p. It's quite amazing. I am using the optical out on the PS3 to my receiver for 5.1 and I have the HDMI audio out still turned on too. If I don't want the house shaking, I just use the TV speakers and I don't have to play with any settings. It's a nice feature of the PS3 (dual audio output). I also have the PS3 remote for when I'm not playing and I'm looking around on XMB or getting ready to watch a DVD or Bluray. |

The 360 has a dedicated hardware scaler, works both ways. Sony implemented something less elegant in the PS3.

Yeah, the PS3 is more like a PC in that regard. It's either 1920x1080 or 1280x720 for HD, if you don't support those resolutions, the Display will just stretch to fill it's native resolution.
The 360 is much better at this, it has actual resolutions you can pick from the video settings, even 1680x1050 and some other ones and everything looks good then. |

Damn... I am still not sure about it. I have x360 at heart. Had some great time with it when I had one.(I had 20gb premium).
It suicided month after they added 16:10 resolutions and games instalations. and 1680x1050 looks great. almost like real. And nothing was stretched. Still. Elite 120gb is cheaper than ps3... I guess its chooice I will make in market. Gears of War2 and Mass Effect(which I prefer on 360 somehow) Is a black hole to me as much as Uncharted2 and Killzone on ps3 |

It's not as bad as it use to be but it still happens more often then it should.
Funny story, My friends launch X360 finally gave up and RROD, he went out and bought an Elite Holiday Bundle because it was out of the 3 year warranty... and well his new Elite RROD within the first week. Thankfully Best Buy swapped it out for him. |
