Default Re: Quadro FX 880M Stability Problems

I recently joined the fray with a Lenovo W510 and the Quadro FX 880M, running on Slackware64 13.1 with KDE 4.4.3 and x86_64-195.36.24 drivers. While I have not been using the system enough to notice a lockup while actually doing something, it has been locking up for me when I come out of Sleep. I've read that the xhci module should be blacklisted in /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules, however I lsmod does not show this module even listed. Usually KDE puts the monitor into a blank screensaver followed by standby. After this happens if I wake the monitor up with the mouse the screen comes back the way it should and the mouse moves about, however the screen is frozen. Clicking anywhere on the screen has no reaction! Help!

EDIT: I am using the latest BIOS from Lenovo BTW, 1.19-1.11...

I've had those problems with screensavers after suspend, too.

Some things you might want to check:
Does it wake up properly w/o screensaver?
When it's stuck, can you switch to a console and kill the screesaver and then return?

I ended up using a different screensaver (simple xlock).

'Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

My backlight now works fine with No sound or anything bad happening becuase of this fix.

I didn't know how to make the nvidia bug log. But, I did also attach my DSDT

Question Re: Quadro FX 880M Brightness Issue for Kernel 2.7.1

I have been using my Thikpad w510 for both Fedora 13 [2.6] and now Fedora 16 [2.7.

In Fedora 13 I did not have a problem with the brightness control on the laptop with the Nvidia driver.

Now with Fedora 16 I am not able to regulate the brightness with the Brightness Control.

I have tried adding the line:-
option DWORD|RegistryDwords
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

But in my xorg.conf I do not see a GPU stanza, I see 4 Device stanzas and if I add the word to all or the enties, I cannot start up the Nvidia device - I do not go into graphical mode.

Can I get some clarity on what the entire stanza should look like ?

Other than the brightness I do not have any other issues with the card

Before I go to the native Nvidia driver, I have a question regarding updating a) Nvidia Drivers and b) Updating the Kernel. I have downloaded the driver ready to install:-
a) For an updated driver, I can use:
nvidia-installer --update

Thanks in advance.
b) What happens when the Kenel is updated while the Nvidia is installed, what do I do ?
I use akmod to rebuild my kmod lib, I did see a reference to mkmod, but where is that obtained.
