Question Have we already been told the approx. price of NV30?

http://www.cgshaders.org/contest/

Quote:
from 'Terms and Conditions'
In the NV30 category, a first place winner will be chosen to receive an NV30-based Shuttle XPC System valued at approximately $800. A second place winner will be chosen to receive an NV30-based graphics board valued at approximately $400.
What do you think?

Now all I have to do is learn Cg and write a good file before 30th September.

probably on the ball. judging from history it would seem very likely that NV30 would cost $400-500. depending on the price of the R9700Pro and how NV30 compares to it, $400 is probably what we'll be seeing.

I think that's a fair guess. Depending on just what spec memory they feel necessary to squeeze in there to make it superior to the 9700, I think it will be $400+. This is street price, mind you... I doubt you'll find $340 NV30's the first week of its introduction. I doubt the street price would be much more than $450 either.

I very sincerly don't think that's a "guess". CgShaders.org is a nVidia website - it's not some type of Cg fan site.

So if they say +- $400, then that means the recommended price for the NV30 ( or at least one type of NV30 ) will be $400.

Maybe $400 will be like the GF4 4400 - there's one for less, one for more. But we'll see that in the coming months i suppose - this still is a very good indication

With the card just taped out, and production just getting under way, I doubt things like core and memory speeds have been set in stone yet. Those things depend on yields, available memory speeds, and targeted market price.

If they can't beat the 9700 for $400, then I guarantee (asking to make a fool of myself here ) that there will be a version that costs more... and yes, perhaps there will be an NV30 Ti5000 and an NV30 Ti4000 (or whatever).

Since it taped out in May, they should have done a lot during those few months

There might be different versions of the NV30 at various prices. Assuming the regular NV30 version doesn't beat Radeon 9700, as Bigus Dickus says the top version would be used to beat Radeon 9700.

except that everyone is predicting NV30 to be low volume initially. which means they probably won't be able to sell 2 different products, more likely is that the top performing part will be "NV30" with lower versions available later.
