250AUD to send it back. HDD goes with it as they usually replace it too. Not sure if I wanna send it back or just buy a new one.
Prob buy a new one and repair the old one and sell see how much I can make up. Will see how much they go for on ebay. Interestingly, if the warranty sticker has been tampered with, they wont repair even outside of warranty... |

You got a confirm that they have to take back the HD? It would be weird considering that its allowed to swap drives... I don't even know where my original drive is.

Yeah I got a confirm. Even the print out postage form say the HDD must go back and they WILL format it. :
: There go my saves... |

That sucks. Can you just buy a cheap 2.5mm HD, and put that in for now?

Remove the original drive before doing your backup, then replace it and tell the store you never powered it on. They won't know the difference since the drive will have never booted. |

Has anyone actually tried putting a PS3 HD into a different PS3? I always wondered if that was even possible or if the PS3 would notice that the HD was for another PS3 and auto format it or be unable to access the data.

It should just work, just none of the data would work without the profiles since they aren't saved to the HD.

All hardware fails eventually.

Yeah, but it's nicer when it fails well beyond it's product life cycle. I think everyone has learned some lessons with hardware this generation.
