Default Screen "flickers" when displaying grey-white combinations (G105M)

Hi.

I have Nvidia G105M in my notebook Acer Extensa 5635G (15,6''), which is one of the notebooks that had "6 little screen (640*480 resolution)" problem. This problem was solved in latest beta driver-195.36.03, thanks for that! But i have another problem wich is related with driver...

When monitor displays grey-white combination of colors, the screen "flickers" like on old CRT's with 60 Hz refresh rate. Now, I don't know if my refresh rate's are configuret correctly, or whre lies the problem.

There's example picture in attatchment which, when diplayed, "flickers" (click on it to display it in full size). Also, there is my xorg.conf in attatchment.

The screen on my laptop does this too. It's likely that the panel actually only has 6 bits of color precision, and relies on the driver to perform dithering to fill in the remaining precision bits. The GPU uses a temporal dithering algorithm that usually works great, but depending on the color pattern, such as the example you gave, may cause a tiny bit of flicker.

Thanks for the reply.

If I understood your reply correctly, the problem is in dithering algorithm in driver which doesn't work efficient enough with theese color schemes. So, can it be improved? And do you plan to fix it in future releses?

Temporal dithering usually looks better for most uses. However, for some use cases a static dithering pattern may be more appropriate. You could give this a try: add the following to the Screen section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code:
Option "RegistryDwords" "DitherAlgo8=3; DitherAlgo6=3"
I can't guarantee that'll work because it's something of a backdoor option, but it's worth trying.

This works great for me.
Thanks!

Although, the color transitions are smoother with tenporal dithering, but I can live with that.
I hope that you will fix the temporal dithering in future releases.
