Really? I had a 9700 Pro for a long time, it was totally awesome back then. The GeForce 4 series looked absolutely pale compared to it.

Probably because the Geforce 4 series was tech that was released between R200 and R300, and therefore had performance (and price) between the two.

NV and ATI's release schedules were pretty out of sync back then... well, then again, they are much of the time.

It makes it that much more attractive choice for myself and damn well nearly convinces me to go ahead and get the 5870.
Preacher, those total watts I quoted do not include my monitor, it is not plugged into the UPS. Intel's speedstep on the Lynnfield helps tremendously as well. CPU core speed and voltage are cut way down when idling or light usage which definitely factors in. Your mileage may vary. I tested overclocking the Radeon core and memory clocks by 5% or so. I noticed that when running unigine dx11 with the Radeon overclock system load was fluctuating around ~225watts.

Iruwen: After getting the 9700, I started having major system problems and crashes. Couldve been power supply or a driver conflict instead of a card problem. But at the time I wasn't thinking about that though and didn't care to spend any energy finding out the root problem. When I took the 9700 card out, stable system. Regardless of what it really was, it soured me on ATI for a long time.

Nvidia GT200 sucessor tapes out - by Charlie, May 2008

Any similarities are purely coincidential

/e: let's face it, while Charlie is always good for a laugh, he's not a good source for reliable information besides rumors and FUD. He just hates NV, back then and still today.

Uhh, everything in that article turned out to be true? What exactly are you trying to prove there?
