I set this option with nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2. Although I notice a huge performance increase, the X server becomes really unstable and crashes randomly taking me back to the login screen. Switching back to InitialPixmapPlacement=1 solves the issue.

You are using a very old driver, and I'm not sure your graphic card can uset IPP2 at all.

You are contradicting yourself. Apparently that type of setup doens't work since it is segfaulting.
Why are you using IPP=2 in first place? |

I'm using IPP=2 because it brings an huge performance increase. As I've already stated, it works but, after a while, (say, 5-10 mins) xserver crashes.

Well, you've reported the bug, now wait. No need to bump every hour.
