yap, it was great actually worked. when initially released it delayed pirated copies for over a year. so great success.

all negative bs started because all the kiddo pirates started messing with pirate tools to try to bypass it.

Looks like the thing didn't work after all At least people don't have to worry about buying their games now.

Thing is, nowadays it's actually the average joes doing the pirating because it's so easy and there's no good protection scheme to get in their way.

Read all the way to the bottom, the final paragraphs are some of the most interesting.
Well, it didn't work and its been cracked.

As for that DRM scheme at the end of the blog, bad idea for a AAA title. And knowing some pubs/devs out there, I can imagine thousands of people sitting at their desks wondering why the game is hitching and stalling while the AI behaves erratically or is non existant.

ISP's are complaining about bandwidth problems as it is and Time warner has even started metering peoples bandwidth. When things like hulu, boxee, TVersity, and run-o-the-mill IPTV become more mainstream, this is just icing on a cake.

AI and dialogue scripts arent exactly big though, but just the idea of streaming certain facets of the game seems like it could be a nightmare and waste of bandwidth.

MMO's may do it well, but usually all assets of the maps and game are done all at once, and once its downloaded, you got it, its local, no more downloading until an update is presented...

I could only imagine what it would be like if the remote assets weren't cached during the gaming session!

It might come down to publishers from all mediums waiting it out for government internet regulation, which I bet will come someday. And yes, I know the government cannot control the internet, but like proposals in Australia and North Korea they can control access to it, and as we get more and more Orwellian I bet it happens someday.

No, there are several scene forums out there I have checked and none of them are experiencing issues related to the crack. If you're questioning whether the crack works, check your local NFO site.

UPDATE: I rechecked some sites today, even the pirate bay for ****s n giggles... Some people reported issues not being able to get past chapter 1 or something, but is fixed by using the default profile... I guess the game has user profiles.

So yeah, it works. I can't say from personal experience since I am not really interested.

I LOL'd when I noticed how many people are saying F*** you ubisoft on the sites.

If the FCC succeeds in their efforts, I doubt gaming will be affected. As for controlling access, I doubt they would "block" access to gaming domains.

Universities do a damn good job of blocking warez and stuff if they have the desire... I am sure in some distant day the government will be fully capable of stopping copyright infringement through national firewalls.
