Default GeForce GT 325 M

Hi

I've bought brand new ASUS N61JV notebook recently. It contains new Nvidia GeForce GT 325 M GPU along with Intel Arrandale IGP running nvidia optimus. I try to find GT 325 M in the list of nvidia binary linux driver supported graphic cards, but there's no such GPU listed. I can't find it in drivers section at all (win drivers). I find this very confusing. My question is if the latest nvidia linux binary drivers support this GPU and if there might be problems running it while running along with Intel Arrandale IGP and Optimus.

You have to wait until new drivers are released.

We currently have no plans to support Optimus on Linux.

Thank you for the answers. Well I don't need transparent switching between Intel IGP and nVidia GPU, just want to run GT 325M using xorg. I test the system with Ubuntu 10.4 these days. Distro has 2.6.31 kernel and xorg Intel driver 1.2.9 + patches, so Intel IGP works perfectly with all features enabled (OpenGL, composite desktop effects). Nvidia GPU does not work with 190 binary drivers. xorg says it has problems identifing BIOS of GT 325M (BIOS 0x???????/XXXXXX). When I add BusId "PCI:1:0:0" it says it cannot initialize nVidia GPU and something about I/O problem with BIOS. I'll send all the log files here latter this week.

I also have the same laptop with same graphics card. I am using Fedora 12. I simply change xorg.conf by substituting vesa with intel, it didnt work. Can you please write how you configure linux for your graphics card with intel driver? I appreciate if you post your xorg.conf and other details. Thnx

Two things you need. Linux kernel v 2.6.31 or newer and xorg intel driver v 2.9.0 or newer. Older versions of the software does not support Intel Arrandale.

I have the most recent kernel and intel driver but when I have intel instead of vesa, I encountered black screen while booting. Do i need some other patch or package?

kernel.x86_64 2.6.32.9-70
xorg-x11-drv-intel.x86_64 2.9.1-1.fc12

Do you have any options, either through a BIOS setting, or a hardware switch, to disable the hybrid graphics and/or the Arrandale IGP itself?

There's no such option in BIOS and there's no hardware switch to switch between graphic cards.

there is not option in bios for truning off any graphics card. currently i can only use generic vesa driver. but i cannot set the resolution to 1366x768 with that, tried many things with xrandr, xorg.conf. If there is any way to use only one of graphics card, intel or nvidia, i'd like to know.
