Default Molyneux: Heavy Rain the future of video games

Quote:
During a a one-on-one conversation with writer Frank Rose at SXSW this week, Fabled designer Peter Molyneux heaped praise on Heavy Rain, calling it "absolutely brilliant."

"I recommend anyone who wants to start to see the first glimpses of the future of video games to go out and buy it,"
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/16/mo...of-the-future/

So, interactive movies are the future of gaming? No real risk or penalty? If course he thinks that, look at Fable 2.

(Also he talks about how innovative the game is, apparently missing the fact that Indigo Prophecy did the same exact thing years and years ago, and even Dragon's Lair on a fundamental level).

Heavy Rain didnt interest me at all, so I sure hope not I too felt it looked like an interactive movie.

Sorry he's wrong, Deus Ex 1 was the future of gaming, but thanks to these consoles, that will probably never ever be. Thanks, Sony, and Microsoft, for dumbing down America like Hussein is doing!

It has quite a bit of potential, too, but the QTEs are mostly meaningless. Changing a baby's diaper, feeding the baby, rocking it... what's the friggin' point? Most QTEs in the game cannot be failed as well (only combat-related ones). It'd be nice if messing around with the baby, for example (and the mother in the scene - if you've played it, you'll understand), actually affected the outcome of the scene. But nope. You're just pressing X to Jason for nothing.

I agree 100% Indigo Prophecy was an amazing experience, a lot like Heavy Rain. I really hope Heavy Rain eventually comes to PC. It would be really neat to see what they could do with it though I find it highly doubtful.

Heavy Rain is not more of an interactive movie then Monkey Island is. It is a lot like a point click adventure game except you directly control the character, and QTEs replace misc inv system. Its the adventure genre returning in a more cinematic fashion.

Probably.

Still don't want it to be the "future of gaming." And though I never played it I watched the 30 minute giantbomb quicklook, so I know pretty much how it plays.

I would like to play it, but like Monkey Island as an aside to normal gaming, not AS gaming.

MW2 sold 8 million units... Heavy Rain sold 1 million units... it's not the future of gaming.

IŽd watch it played, and I plan to next time I visit my brother.
But I wont play it.

Well teh Magnus needs to put numbers of MW2 sell in every thread about future of gaming.

I don't care about future of mainstream gaming anyway, all I want is core, hard, simulation PC games not some casual, dumbed down consolish *ish*.
