Grrr this is really annoying guys, in crysis all seem fine and according to rivatuners Hardware monitor the clocks are what they are supposed to. But after maybe 10 minutes of ingame crysis.. maxed settings so it's making my card sweat, now temps where just over 80 degreeds celcius which i find not half-bad. Then suddenly my fps dropps from 30 - 40 down to 10 - 15.. and checking hardware monitor now my clocks are low, around 300 - 400. I heard the 200 series has some automatically downclocking function when you're not using 3d.. as idle in windows etc to save power. I tried to remove this and seemed to succed, now i believe my card downclocks itself due to heat problems. Is there a way to finally and ultimately turn this function off? It's ANNOYING!

yeh, it could be possible that its getting stuck in a 2d clock mode when you alt-tab.
This has happened to my card with a certain driver version that i can't remember right now.... make sure you update to the newest drivers then report back if it still has an issue.

lol good point. Thing is.. i have the very latest drivers.. they're infact so new that nvidia even removed them because ppl said they had heat issues and fans stopping working. Do you think it's the fault of the driver?
Any way to turn of the damn auto-underclocking? It's bugging me like hell.. my pair of 8800gtx'es never did this.

There's an option in the 3d settings for power management, Auto or High Performance (or something like that). I'm not sure if that's just for fans or clocks. Check that out.

To be honest, I was having the same issue you had with a newer driver version...
I'm using 190.62 even though they're kind of outdated. I haven't had any issues with those drivers though... I'm thinking of updating today because of an issue i've been having with BC2 so i'll let you know if the problem crops up for me after updating

Edit- Ok, after getting both cards replaced and still having this issue it was really starting to annoy. In my case relaxing my tRAS memory setting cured all of my downclocking issues with the cards and I can now even oc like crazy. Believe it when I say I tried every combo of voltages but in the end it was one measly memory timing that was even passing 24h memtest runs causing all the probs. Its weird because the driver never crashed but rather the cards would just downclock regardless of load or temp.
